Three Word Wednesday: dare, essence, practical

It's Wednesday - that means One Shot and Three Words. Today's three words are: dare, essence, practical

I dare myself to hope
My work's not tripe or trope
A practical endeavor
For a man so clever
The essence of the way we writers cope.

Here's something new - listen to me read it (go ahead and click - it's only 12 seconds long):

Listen!

Boy, the mic on that webcam is lousy, isn't it?

  2. This was fun to read but I also nodded in agreement. I wanted to see how Three Word Wednesday works. This looks like fun.

  4. I enjoyed reading it, but you were right, the few seconds of listening to the audio was worth the click. Very expressive.

  9. Whoopee! The cadence in my head was the same as your spoken tempo - I'm capable of getting some things right.
We can but get it down, and hope for the best.

  12. Tony, Nice take on the prompt!

Might I suggest the rhythm would improve if the last line were, "The essence of how writers cope"?

I'm a songwriter, and I read everyone's work aloud, so that came up for me. Fun hearing you read as well! Nice addition to the blog.

  13. Thanks for reading, and for the great comments, everyone! Amy,, you're ear is terrific; I like your final line a lot. I had a lot of trouble working the final word ("essence") into the poem, hence the rat-a-tat-tat of the final line.
